Although a hands-on examination of the actual Hard-Water spotting is required to conclusively determine the cause, there are several commonly occurring trends. Listed below are some of the more frequent causes of Hard-Water problems on glass.
CONSTRUCTION SITE:
Glass/Windows being delivered to the construction site with Hard-Water already on the glass are rare, but this does occur. This damage usually occurs when the glass/window is being transported to the construction site.
At times, if the unit sits on the site without protection from sprinklers, contractor/person navigating a hose for whatever reason will splash Hard-Water onto window/glass. Hard-Water spotting may develop even if it is in small amounts.
PROJECT SITE:
Glass/Windows will also need to be protected when unaware contractors are on the site doing work for you. Causes of Hard-Water glass damage can include:
- Unqualified Window Cleaners may not monitor the TDS outputs on their RO/DI water filtration systems. At times this is due to a lack of knowledge about water hardness levels. At other times, however, these filters are not changed often enough because replacement of them can be very costly.
- Pressure Washer/Paint/Stucco Companies, or other companies not specified, who uses unfiltered water to spray down a building for cleaning or prep work (this often includes property owners).
